Nikon D400 coming April 14th?

On Tuesday, March 31, 2009
Is the Nikon D400 , Nikon?s eagerly awaited DSLR, coming sooner than we think? Previous hints had pegged a Summer release on the D400, but it now looks like Nikon?s about to snatch the limelight back from Canon. Shutterbugs, get your calendars out and mark the date: Nikon?s most exciting camera yet looks closer than ever. The listing of a Nikon D400 book on Amazon had us predicting a July launch for the Nikon D400, but it?s just possible we?ll be seeing it in just a fortnight: Nikon?s

It's a pretty sketchy rumor, but we're hearing that Canon's working on a pro video camera based on a 12.1 megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor similar to the one in the Rebel XSi. That makes perfect sense to us, actually -- DSLRs with video capabilities like the 5D Mark II and the new Rebel T1i have definitely shaken up people's expectations of prosumer video , and Canon's sitting on a well-regarded camcorder division primed to pounce on a new market. According to CanonRumors, the new pro cam will l

Canon 5D Mark II Camera USB Flash Drive

On Tuesday, March 31, 2009
A seller on eBay is selling Canon EOS 5D Mark II Cameras for around $100 . So you?re probably asking, what?s the catch? Why would they be selling a $3000 camera for such a cheap price? Because it?s not a camera! It?s a Canon EOS 5D Mark II SHAPED USB flash drive. This drive can hold 4 GB of data and was originally released for the Hong Kong Canon Club. So $100 is a lot for a 4GB drive but the level of detail and craftmanship on this looks to be pretty good. It looks like a high quality

Photography Blog 's just put up a rather exhaustive review of Canon's PowerShot SX200 IS . If you've already forgotten, this little guy boasts a 12 megapixel sensor, a 12x optical zoom, and a 3-inch LCD. Among the standout features of the cam, they like the PASM creative shooting modes, and its versatile 12x zoom lens. Drawbacks for the camera include its video mode, LCD (which is a lower resolution than some rivals), and a Smart Auto Mode that leaves a little to be desired. Overall, they seem

For example, to some people, good bokeh and the rule of thirds are less important these days than finding a person to photograph who happens to have lots of tattoos and nose rings. New standards are gradually adopted by the emerging photographers and attitudes gradually change. Younger photographers seem much, much le

How to Build a Standing Desk

On Sunday, March 29, 2009
Written by Simon Mackie . A standing desk (also called a stand-up desk) is just what it sounds like: a desk that allows you to stand up while working. Taller than a sitting desk, a standing desk is between waist and chest height. Google and Wikipedia will tell you that this type of desk was used by Thomas Jefferson, Virginia Woolf, Marilyn Monroe and Donald Rumsfeld. (OK, I made up one of those.) There can be health benefits to using a standing desk, particularly for certain back problems.

Samsung S8000 and M8000 handsets leaked

On Sunday, March 29, 2009
It looks like Samsung was ultra serious about releasing about a million touchscreen devices this year. Two more handsets have been leaked and despite the fact that they look exactly the same, they have some differences. Both pack in a 240 x 400 resolution touchscreen and both have a home button. Their exteriors make them look like twins, but under the hood is where the differences are. We don?t know much about the S8000, but we do know it features a 5-megapixel camera with dual LED flash and a

As Pure Digital's Flip cameras have amply demonstrated, there's plenty of folks looking for nothing more than a dead simple digital video camera, and it looks like Japan's Amadana is now looking to peel off a bit of that user base with its new SAL pocket camera. Somewhat notably, this one will let you connect it directly to another SAL camera to transfer videos without a computer, but it's otherwise a bit on the lackluster side, with it packing just 2GB of internal memory and not able to captu

Macro photography with CHDK

On Saturday, March 28, 2009
[Tim] photographs insects for bugguide.net. As you can imagine, macro photography is a must. He was very frustrated with his camera?s stock ability to capture the insects. You can see in the example on his site that the image is blurry and has some color issues. He did some research and hacked together a method of getting fantastic macro images for relatively cheap . He used the reversed lens method to get his macro lens set up. He then modded his camera with CHDK for more control. He found

Samsung S8000 and M8000 handsets leaked

On Saturday, March 28, 2009

Ever wished you had some high-speed chase footage after you finished tearing down the freeway after crooks? Of course you have! You need a quick, cheap DIY camera mount. Once you've got all the necessary materials, it's just a matter of cutting the sponge to fit your camera. It may not work for the most serious off-roading, but it's a quick and

Sure, you can pick up a cheap disposable camera at the neighborhood convenience store for about $10 bucks, but why buy one of those when you can build your own for a few dollars more? The SuperHeadz Plamodel 35mm camera kit lets you snap together your camera using die-cut pieces that are reminiscent of the first time you built a model car or airplane when you were a kid.
