Random Excellence: Tod Papageorge

On Sunday, May 31, 2009
One of my photo teachers at the Corcoran, Frank DiPerna, owned a print of this photograph. If I recall correctly, Frank felt that everybody who loved photography should have at least a couple of original prints of favorite pictures framed and hanging on their walls, and he brought this in, in its frame, to show to us. He loved it because he liked to go to the ballpark, and for him this shot had all the feeling of a summer day at the ball game. It will be in Tod's upcoming show in NYC.MikeN.b.: A

Crop and Chop

On Sunday, May 31, 2009
Now that we can enjoy cameras with multi, mega-pixel resolution in their CCDs there is an indulgence and pictorial improvement denied us with earlier models: that is, the role of cropping. Except for the thoughtful approach of cropping. Even if you?re dissatisfied with the your

Superzooms slim down or bulk up

On Sunday, May 31, 2009
The Canon PowerShot SX10 IS, an example of a bulky superzoom. (Click to enlarge.)" Some of the new superzoom cameras I reported on earlier this year, which were shown at CES and PMA , are just starting to show up in stores. All have 20x or more optical zoom, which is a good thing, but they're pretty chunky for point-and-shoots. Still, if maximum zoom is your priority, they're the way to go. On the other hand, if you wouldn't mind sacrificing a little zoom power for smaller size, y

By Chris Scott Barr The other day I showed you a pretty cool way to carry a couple of cameras around . Considering how often I write about camera holders, it?s strange to find another one so soon. I?m sure that you?ve all seen those cell phone clips for your belt, the ones that have a post that attaches to the back of your phone. I had one for an older flip phone that worked great. Well take that same concept, apply it to a DSLR and you?ve got the Spider Holster. It certainly looks like an

We've been known to mule-about vast quantities of gear for hours at a time in order to bring you the latest and greatest in gadgets at a real-time pace. That means several pounds of electronics (laptops, data cards, extra batteries, smartphones, a DSLR with multiple lenses, compact camera, a video camera and all the associated cables and power bricks) slung from our feeble necks and shoulders. At the time of launch we knew that Sony Ericsson?s 12 megapixel camera phone, the Idou , would receive a name change once it got closer to an official launch. Well, that day - not the launch day, but the name day - has come. The Sony Ericsson Idou will be officially released as the ?Satio?. Why they went with this moniker instead of Idou, which I personally prefer, is anyone?s guess. Still no word on a street date for the handset, but in case you forgot it is the first phone to sport a?
